My mom keeps the tv on most of the time to keep her company. Sometimes good things come out of there.

More beautiful paper graffiti in town, always thought that Seville was becoming a theme park of itself.

I will update with the three companions to this one.

The Lost Vanguard

September 1st, 2007

Bakery, 1931

One of the highlights of this years’ vacation was Richard Pare’s exhibition at MoMA. We had to rush out so I had to choose between Serra and him, and do not regret it a bit.

The images portrait with forensic clarity the conditions of avant-garde soviet buildings, most of them endangered.

Apart from a few iconic examples long famous in textbooks, the full extent of the architecture of this time was largely unknown until the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. The range of these images reveals that far from a period of paper experimentation, the Soviet avant-garde created a large legacy of actual building. Nor was this limited to Moscow; architecture spread the culture of revolution to all parts of the Soviet Union. Lost Vanguard also includes a selection of Russian architecture journals on loan from private collections—notably that of Stephen Garmey—which provide historical context and show pictures of iconic Russian modernist structures as they appeared when new.

MoMA’s site do not show the images but here is a small slide show, and of course, Google is your friend.

We saw this (click the image for a larger view) yesterday while going back home at nigh. Didn’t have a camera with me so I went back today to shoot it. Just love it.

Who knows about the author?

Edit: Is not there anymore.

New Shooter

Finally I found a compact camera that I can use (and enjoy very much doing so). Manual everything, metal body and a 24mm in the low end. Some may dislike the somewhat high noise, but it has a film grain like quality that appeals to me.

Edit: Ale, I still want a D300 (to go with my 17-55 f2.8).
